RAY WESTLAKE'S

War Memorial Corner

There is however, another group of war memorials which are not so eay to see. These are the ones that were placed inside churches, workplaces and other buildings. Just as I always look out for public war memorials whenever I travel to new parts of the country, so does Ray Westlake but he goes a step further, and looks inside buildings. Here he finds memorials that are more familiar in tone, with a "family" feel to them, often dedicated only to the workers or worshippers who used to be familiar with the place.  "In Memory Of Our Boys" is an inscription which sums up this type of memorial, and Ray has noted hundreds of them and researched the men named on them.  In his "War Memorial Corner" he describes some of this type, and gives details of the men who are commemorated. This section of the site will be updated regularly, with new additions every month or so.

Ray Westlake is the author of several books on the First World War, one of them specifically devoted to the subject of war memorials in his home country - Gwent.
